Two new entrants into the Toronto food scene are Forno Cultura and Sud Forno. Forno is Italian for oven or bakery. Both serve a variety of baked-on-premises breads and pastries. Forno Cultura opened its doors in April of this year and is the work of Andrea Mastrandrea, a third-generation baker who used to run the kitchen at B Espresso Bar and baked for Alimento. In the summer, the folks of Terroni opened  Sud Forno on Queen Street West, a few doors down its original restaurant location.

Since I am in the topic of Italian treats, Kekou Gelato House opened on Baldwin Street earlier this year. What makes this place unique is that their in-house made gelatos have Asian-inspired flavours like Green Tea Pistachio, Sticky Rice Pudding and Peanut Sesame. Unfortunately, they have closed shop for the winter and will re-open in the spring (estimated late March 2014).
