Estou de Volta, Lisboa

“I am back, Lisbon” – albeit for only two days to meet good friends who also happen to be in town.

I finally got the chance to visit the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum and its art collection that was amassed by Armenian oil magnate Calouste Gulbenkian. The collection contains some 6,000 pieces that stretch from 2500BC to the 20th century, from Egyptian and Greek antiquities, to French furniture and European paintings. At the other end of the museum’s gardens is the Centro de Arte Moderna (CAM), which opened in 1983. The building was recently renovated by Kengo Kuma to feature an impressive curved ceramic-and-timber canopy that stretches across its exterior. CAM’s rotating exhibitions tell the story of Portuguese art in the 20th century.

The Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology or MAAT. The museum is designed by Amanda Levete Architects.

I have always enjoyed the food selection in Lisbon. Needless to say, I made my way back to A Cevicheria on my first day. Still exceptional.

Describing itself as a Mexican Gastrobar, Carnal is a Michelin Bib Gourmamd restaurant that serves well balanced dishes. (They are temporarily operating at another location due to a fire at their original site).

I also went back to Chef Kiko Martin’s Las Dos Manos, featuring Mexican-Japanese dishes.

My last dinner was at Pigmeu, located in the Campo do Orique neighborhood. As the name of the restaurant implies, everything revolves around pork – from snout to tail. They offer a tasting menu option. Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction as well.

I decided to stay at a different part of the city this time. I stayed at the Intercontinental Lisbon. Modern and well amenitized rooms.

Até a próxima vez
